About Center
Research Background
The research center was born from Faculty of Engineering, Doshisha University,
which consists of knowledge engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical
engineering and chemical engineering (also including mathematical environment
science with only master course). The center owns researchers who are responsible
for both academic and engineering instructions in all basic and applied
fields corresponding to innovations of modern science and technology. In
Faculty of Engineering, in addition to 7 previous subjects (knowledge engineering,
electrical engineering, electronics engineering, mechanical and systems
engineering, energy and mechanical engineering, molecular science and technology,
chemical engineering and materials science), two new subjects - information
system design and environmental systems were set up in 2004.
Faculty of Engineering moved from the center part of Kyoto City to large
Kyotanabe Campus in Kyotanabe area (Kansai Cultural & Academic Research
City). More research apparatus and equipment were enriched based on the
research support to private university from the Ministry of Education.
Now the joint researches between inside and outside the university are
being activety carried out through liaison office. Various big projects
were being conducted, which include high tech・research・center new work
(nano structure hybrid device properties) from 1996, academic frontier
initiatives work (advanced material and complicated system science etc)
from 1997, and academic frontier initiatives work (intelligence information
and its applications) from 2000. We have also participated in intelligent
cluster creation work of Kansai Cultural & Academic Research City in
2002.

▶Fiscal year 2003
The adjustment of the devices and the equipments set up at the energy conversion
research center and the following researches are done in the first year.
Here, each number corrsponds to four research consortiums, that is, (1)
highly effective energy conversion system research, (2) zero emission researches,
(3) the fuel cycles and the energy storing researches, and (4) optimized
LCA evaluation researches of the energy conversion equipment severally.
The researches of each group are promoted while mutually taking organic
cooporation.
(1)Investigation of exhaust product by atomization combustion analysis
of diesel engine, arrangement of engine rejection heat parameter and basic
design of heat exchanger element for collection, and making of proton electroconductive
solid electrolyte for fuel cell.
(2)Examination of highly accurate metrology of low density exhaust chemistry
kind and examination of evaluation technique of physical characteristic
of exhaust corpuscle.
(3)Clarification of heat transportation mechanism with hydromagnetic and
examination of electrical charge and discharge characteristic and acceptable
circuit method of electric double layer capacitor.
(4)Examination of combustion method of energy conversion equipment and
peripherals as hybrid system.
▶Fiscal year 2004
(1) Performance investigation of diesel engine and gas engine that uses
a new synfuel by the fuel design for low exhaust emission making, uniting
program making of quantization calculation and molecular dynamics (the
first principle MD) simulation that specializes in proton conduction,
and examination of making highly effective of compact type rejection
heat use absorption freezer by multiple effect.
(2) Chemical reaction kinetic analysis of generation process of combustion
products, investigation of metrology of the particle size and the number
of density of ezhaust corpuscle, design of kinetic and analytical technique
of corpuscle, and analysis of gas flow mechanism in exhaust catalyst.
(3) Analysis at fuel cycle of manufacturing process of synfuel and include
oxygen burnig and research on magnetic seal that uses hydromagnetic and
its application to energy conversion equipment.
(4) Examination of LCA evaluation method that assumed engine system, fuel
cell, and electric motor system hybrid.
▶Fiscal year 2005
(1)Investigation of combustion performance and exhaust performance of hydrogen
diesel organization, basic design of thermoelectric conversion element
that suits the best heat exchange element, application of molecular dynamics
simulation to proton conductor for fuel cell, and electrochemical measurement
of hydrogen behavior in the titanium-related hydrogen storing alloy.
(2)Development of highly accurate metrology and execution of nonstationary
measurement of exhaust chemical species and corpuscle, calculation of combustion
products by multi-dimensional analysis of nonstationaly turbulent flow
of combustion process, and fluid behavior analysis in fuel cell catalyst.
(3)Analysis of hydrogen manufacturing process that uses fuel cycle, development
of waste heat recovery system that uses hydromagnetic, and examination
of making to highly effective and optimal control of electric power control
system.
(4)Examination of LCA evaluation method that assumes engine system, fuel
cell, capacitor, and electric motor system hybrid.
▶Fiscal year 2006
(1)Limit investigation of exhaust performance of engine system that uses
synfuel and include oxigen fuel, making for trial purposes of thernoelectric
conversion stack and its proof experiment, development of system best control
method, making for trial purposes and evaluation of fuel cell that uses
proton electroconductive solid electrolyte, and the best design of non-condensed
gas collection machine in compact type absorption freezer.
(2)Limit investigation of making of engine system super-low pollution,
optimization analysis of exhaust catalyst and fuel cell catalyst, and establishment
of the optical measurement technique of the time-space structure of the
ultrafine particle,
(3)CO2 analysis of fuel synthesis by biomass, voltage baransa circuit etc.
for making to hybrid, and examination of surrounding circuit.
(4)Examination of LCA evaluation method that assumes engine system, fuel
cell, capacitor, adn hybrid system including electric motor system and
rejection heat use air-conditioning machine system.
▶Fiscal year 2007
In the final fiscal year, a summary of the result of the research and especially
optimized LCA evaluation research on the energy conversion equipment are
emphatically done.
(1)Analysis of positive and negative electrode characteristics of fuel
cell and improvements of electrode characteristic, design and summary of
proton conduction material, and practical use development of high durability
and light type hydrogen storing material.
(2)Environmental effect test on harmful element exhausted from energy
conversion equipment.

▶In 2009, the environment equipments and apparatuses will be prepared for research infrastructures, and the framework of the international network will be constructed and each theme will be started up. Japan-China international academic research seminar, KIFEE conference in Norway and domestic or international research meetings will be organized. In addition, assessment committee for each a fiscal year will be started up, and outcome assessments will be carried out at the end of each fiscal year.
▶From the 2010, invitation of young researchers or dispatch of post doctors belonging to this center to overseas will be carried out to activate the commerce and deepen the research contents.
▶ In 2011, the synthesis research theme will be named as 'Optimization Study of the Sustainable-Energy Grid Based on the Zero Emission Technology', and researches conducted until the previous year will be systematized and fused each other. In addition, international collaboratice studies will be conducted and international artificial network of researchers will be constructed.
▶In 2012, the readjustment and remediation reviewed by outside will be conducted. In addition, international collaborative studies will be conducted and international artificial network of researches will be constructed.
▶In 2013, it will give the research results back and translate technologies to society. Furthermore, 'energy source environment international research congress' will be organized in foreign country, and the implementation of 'Sustainable Energy, Concept for constructing society' will be declared for all over the world. In addition, setting up the 'International Sustainable Institute' will be entrained.
▶In 2014 by outside will be reviewed, and the assessment concerning to
the whole accomplishment will be carried out.
