Hiroyuki Toda was born in Osaka, Japan, on March, 1962. He
received the B. Eng., M. Eng., and D. Eng. degrees in electronic
engineering from Osaka University, Osaka, Japan, in 1984, 1986,
and 1989, respectively. From 1988 to 1990, he was a fellowship
at the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science for Japanese
Junior Scientists, and continued research on guided-wave devices
for heterodyne interferometers at Osaka University.From 1990 to 1992, he was a post-doctoral fellow in the School of Electrical Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, U. S. A., and engaged in the research on nonlinear optics and guided-wave devices for optical communications. In 1992, he joined the Department of Communications Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Osaka University, where he held the positions of Research Associate (1992-1998) and Assistant Professor (1998-2005). In 2005, he joined the Department of Electronics, Faculty of Engineering, Doshisha University as an Associate Professor. He is currently a full professor of the department and engaged in research on microwave photonics and optical fiber communications.
Dr. Toda is a member of the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers of Japan, the Japan Society of Applied Physics, Laser Society of Japan, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and Optical Society of America. He has co-authored over 100 international peer-reviewed journal and conference papers. He likes travels, driving, taking photos and videos (digital camera, digital handy cam, PC and HDD recorders), listening music, and building and modifying audio equipment. He also has Japanese amateur first-class radio operator and 3rd Dan Japanese abacus licenses.
