NHKドキュメンタリー『秘境中国 謎の民「山頂に響く 魂の歌」』を観て、何年も前に、雲南省へ旅したことを思い出しました。なぜ山岳地に少数民族は住むのか。これほど厳しい環境で、何千段も棚田を耕すのか。隔絶した地理で漢民族との同化が進まないだけか。
映像はミャオ族の夜郎国について、その歌とともに、岩壁を登る技量や洞窟の墓地を伝えていました。武帝の時代に、シルクロードの富を得るために、漢がその小国を侵略し滅ぼした、と紹介します。大国と小国、交易ルートをめぐる覇権争いの歴史について、その是非を論じた多くの研究があるでしょう。
しかし、もちろん、恐竜の歴史とは異なり、地理や気候の変化、遺伝子ではなく、政治が問題を生み、政治が問題を解くのです。
