アラビア湾岸諸国、特に、サウジアラビアとアラブ首長国連邦UAEは、石油収入を使ってアフリカの資源に投資し、同時に、さまざまなファンド、巨大企業、公共投資、そして、外交や脆弱な国の政治に介入している。

金融政策の失敗から目標を超える大幅なインフレが生じ、アメリカ連銀は金利を急速に引き上げました。1980年代のようなドル高と不況、世界経済への波及が懸念されたわけです。しかし、それは起きていません。
不況に陥ることなく、インフレを穏やかに低下させる、アメリカの「ソフト・ランディング」が成功したわけです。いや、The Economistは、高速成長を続けたままの着陸だ、と驚嘆します。株式市場も絶好調です。アメリカ経済の成長が続く限り、バブルは起きていない、と評価します。
私が興味を持ったのは、3つの点で、アメリカ経済の供給面が調整に優れていた、という指摘です。すなわち、労働力の豊富な供給（とくに移民）、労働生産性の上昇、ボトルネックの解消、です。
日本はどうなのか、と思いました。

中国の温暖化対策について、The Economistの記事を読みました。
米中対立が激化したことで、習近平主席の新産業構想が、革新に向けた投資を加速しました。特に、太陽光発電、リチウム・バッテリー、電気自動車で世界の市場を圧倒しそうな勢いです。共産主義体制だから？
規模の経済、政府の優遇策・補助金、電気自動車の市場拡大、各地に群生する新興企業と猛烈な競争、などが印象的です。バイデン政権はこれに対抗する決意です。
日本は革新できないのか、と私は思いました。

グローバル・サプライ・チェーンに関するWashington Postのドキュメンタリーを観ました。
注文のクリックが商品を届ける背後には、ベトナムの海外生産拠点から、太平洋を越える巨大コンテナ船、広大な敷地で、積み下ろしとトラックに委託するシステムが機能し、ラスト・ワン・マイルをFedExなどの宅配業者が担当します。まさに「神の見えざる手」です。トラック運転手の高齢化や倉庫の人手不足、などを除けば。
Amazonなどが拡大するインターネット時代の大量消費社会は、ある意味で、非常に脆弱で、非常に柔軟、競争的であり、労働者には苛酷です。
