極北の刑務所でナワリヌイが死んだ。本当に、死んだのか? 本当なら、それはロシアの巨大な病が彼を倒し、吐血させ、絶命させたものである。独裁者にさからう勇気をもった人物の死を、多くの人が、天が、悲しむだろう。
しかしニュースの解説者たちは、たとえば、こんなふうに言いました。
茶番である大統領選挙に生じる誤算の一つかもしれない。おとりの対立候補が支持を集めすぎて、その候補者を失格にした。プーチン大勝のシナリオを描く権力機構が、追い詰められ、焦っている。
これまでは、ナワリヌイを生かしておく方が権力者にとって好ましかった。反対派は弱く、体制を脅かす力などない。反対する声を、一定、容認することにより、民主主義の偽装を西側にもっともらしく示す。同時に、西側の民主主義の中身を嘲笑する。しかし今、そういう計算もできなくなったのか。
最初に受けた印象は、いや、違うだろう、でした。それは周辺の問題だ。
奪われた人の命、ある男の死を、もっと真剣に、深く悼むべきではないか、という憤りに近い不満を、私は抱きました。私たちは厳粛な気持ちで、その死という破壊者の表明を直視し、ナワリヌイの家族や支援者とともに苦しんでいることを示すべきです。
毒殺されかけたナワリヌイはドイツの病院で命を救われた後、亡命するより、ロシアに帰って政治活動を続ける道を選択しました。しかし、そのまま空港で逮捕され、47歳で死んだ。

なぜプーチンはナワリヌイを殺したのか？
大統領選挙を控えて、プーチンは、自分に逆らう者は、どれほど西側の支持を得ても、必ず投獄され、意のままに殺害できる、という意志の実現を国民に示そうとしたのではないか。
選挙まで1カ月の時期に、反政府活動家を死亡させた。批判者に沈黙を強制し、どのような反対意見にも確実な報復を表明するために。プーチンが勝利する選挙の結果を、だれも、詐欺とか、茶番とは言うな。たしかに、その感覚はトランプに似ています。
死因は「突然死症候群」? それはロシアに多発している権力者の病です。

アレクセイ・ナワリヌイ氏は、2022年に公開された同氏についてのドキュメンタリー映画で「もし殺されたら」と問われ、「あきらめないで」と、支持者に向けた「遺言」を残していた。
映画のラストでナワリヌイはこうロシア国民、そして私たちに語りかけてくる。「悪が勝つのはひとえに善人が何もしないからだ。」 「行動をやめるな」。
