しかし、価格が粘着的になり、賃金も下方硬直的になりました。その結果、インフレとデフレが貿易不均衡を調整することは難しくなり、金の流出を抑えるため高金利と失業が長期間続くことで、金本位制を離脱する政治的圧力が、特に労働者が選挙に参加する場合、耐えがたくなりました。
