民主主義は簡単な答えを出せるATMやガチャポンではなく、非常に困難な答えを見つける政治闘争です。独裁や戦争を超えて、暴力に依存しない改革の理想がよみがえります。民主主義は、集団的意思を奇跡的な制度改革に変換する、歴史の変圧器なのでしょう。

トルコの大統領選挙に関するFPの対談Turkey’s Pivotal Election, MAY 3, 2023を観ました。
クルチダルオールが勝利するとしたら、それは現在のインフレ・経済問題と地震の影響によるものです。他方、エルドアンが勝利するとしたら、彼を支持する保守層が、トルコの達成した経済成長や中東における大国としての地位、イスラム主義の復活を、経済や民主的制度に与えたマイナス面よりも重視するからです。
