「23日の外国為替市場で、英ポンドが対ドルで37年ぶりの安値を付けた。リズ・トラス新政権による、過去50年で最大規模の減税政策に反応した。」
「ポンドは対ドルで一時3％以上下落し、1.09ドルとなった。対ユーロでも1％以上下げて1.12ユーロだった。／株式市場でもイギリスの株がおおむね下げており、ロンドン証券取引所（LSE）ではこの日、FTSE100指数が2％下落。英国債の利回りも急騰し、価格が下落している。」

The Economist, September 10th 2022は、保守党党首選挙の結果を受けて、すでにトラス首相の課題と主張を整理し、予想と期待、警告を述べていました。・・・
トラスが勝ったのは、対立候補のリシ・スナクに比べて、イギリス衰退論を否定する楽観主義を前面に掲げたからだ。むつかしい選択など無視した。「ボリス抜きの大興奮」というキャンペーン・スタイルが成功した。
トラスは、自己演出型のラディカルな政治家、31年前にマーガレット・サッチャーが首相を辞任して以来、もっとも熱心なサッチャー主義の信奉者だ。彼女の野望は、停滞するイギリス経済を変身させること、そして、低成長、高税率の社会民主主義を終わらせることだ。これは経済問題ではない。信念の問題だ。
９月６日に首相官邸で彼女は宣言した。「行動の日が来た。」 ・・・ちょっとトランプのように見える。

トラスにとって、すべての制約を変えるのは、高い成長経済、高い生産性を実現する「改革（転換）」だ。しかし、その政策を導く発想は、保守党の多くが執着し続けるブレグジットの幻である。・・・シンガポールの奇跡、テムズ川沿いのレイキャビク・・・MAGAキャップ!?
トラスが、その財務大臣に任命したクワシ・クワーテンらとともに、サッチャーに倣ってイギリスを改革すると宣言した著書では、減税策と巨額の財政赤字、規制緩和を主張した。・・・レーガン大統領に似ている。
トラスは、インフレ問題を解決するのはイングランド銀行だ、という。他方で、金融政策の責任を物価のほかにも拡大する、と示唆した。トラスもクワーテンも、正統派に依拠する財務省見解を拒否していた。

しかし、今は1970年代の終わりではない。すでに税率は低く、規制緩和も進んだ。イギリスの通貨はポンドであって、ドルではない。世界の主要経済は、金融危機を心配するゼロ金利や量的緩和を終え、インフレ抑制に転じている。
同じ9月24日のBBCニュースは書きました。
「クワーテング財務相はこの日、財政刷新に向けたさまざまな減税と経済政策を発表。2027年までに450億ポンドの減税となり、「スタグネーションのサイクルを成長のサイクルに変える」ものだと述べた。」
「ラリー・サマーズ元米財務長官はブルームバーグの取材で、ポンドが1ドルを割る可能性があるとし、「非常に残念だが、イギリスのふるまいは、新興国が自ら没落していく様子に似ていると思う」と述べた。」
The Economistの記事は、ある閣僚の言葉を紹介していました。・・・「トラスの運命は、最初の100日間ではなく、最初の10日間で決まるだろう。」
権力を握るために示したプラグマティズムを忘れてはならない。物価上昇に対する緩和策は必要だ。しかし、財政規律を回復する見通しと、高金利を受け入れるべきだ。真に勇気ある指導者なら、根拠のない減税による高成長など吹聴せず、ブレグジット後のヨーロッパとビジネスに配慮して関係を築くだろう。NHS改革や福祉国家を守る相続税の引き上げ、年金改革を取り上げるはずだ。
1980年代の政策やサッチャーのパントマイムにふけるのは、ラディカル改革派ではなく、反動だ。
