「猫のしっぽ カエルの手」を観て、ベニシアさんが生まれた大きなお城に驚きました。
王子様と出会って、幸せにお城で暮らす。そんな話を信じている少女たちも多いでしょうが、彼女はお城で生まれても、幸せではなかったようです。
・・・旅に出て、インドの導師に教えられた。
・・・すべての答えはあなたの中にある。
・・・日本に来て、1年がたったとき、私はここでずっと暮らすだろうと思った。
・・・笑顔が人の心を開いてくれるところだったから。

先日、番組を観ていると、ベニシアさんが歩くのも容易でないことを知り、驚きました。認知症が進んでいるようです。
夫の梶山正さんが、視力の衰えから、気力も失ったベニシアさんのことを書いていました。
・・・検査を終えて退院したベニシアは落ち込んでいた。「目が見えないと好きな本が読めないし、絵も描けない。ガーデニングだってできない」と。
しかし、人体や植物の新しい知識を得る中で、少し元気を得たようです。
・・・超能力とまでは言わないが、視神経が衰えたら別の回路を開いて生きていこう。
・・・「頑張るぞ！」と言いながらベニシアは元気さを回復し、近頃は庭でガーデニングする時間も多い。
・・・とはいえ、一緒にスーパーへ買い物に行くときや散歩するときなど「目が見えにくいから、手を繋ぐとか腕を組んでゆっくり歩いて欲しい」と言う。

The Economistが紹介している戦争は、ウクライナだけではありません。特に、コンゴ民主共和国です。ウクライナ戦争の死者が推定数万人に達したというニュースに絶望しますが、第2次コンゴ戦争1998-2003の死者数は、推定80万人から500万人です。
大統領選挙、大統領の暗殺、資源の略奪、周辺諸国の軍事介入・外国軍の駐留、広大な領土、輸送インフラの欠如、政府軍の腐敗・汚職、ルワンダ内戦とジェノサイド、国連軍の介入。
ウクライナがコンゴ戦争のような極限状態に至るとは思いたくないですが、どうでしょうか? プーチンは、それでもいい、と考えているでしょう。そしてアメリカが、2024年の大統領選挙でコンゴのような内戦状態に至る、という事態をすでに真剣に検討しているのはプーチンに限らないと思います。
議事堂襲撃が行われている時間帯に、トランプが何をしていたか、側近の補佐官Cassidy Hutchinsonが調査委員会ではっきり証言しました。The Economistの風刺画では、怪獣となったトランプが灼熱の熱線を放射しています。足元におとなしく座る、共和党のシンボル、象の首輪につながる鎖を握っています。その熱線を盾ではねかえし、抵抗しているのは小さな女性です。
