Exchange Party for International Students at the Center for Japanese Language and Japanese Students at Doshisha

The first exchange party in this semester was held in evening on Friday April 28. In the party, two Chinese female students acted as the master of ceremony. In the beginning, Japanese students as the members of Doshisha Noh club ‘Kanze-kai’ performed Yo-kyoku and Shimai. It was such a valuable time for the international students to be attracted by traditional yet new Japanese classic dance especially for those who had never seen Noh play before.
Next, an exchange student from University of California danced the hula beautifully. While studying, she gives the lessons of the hula at university as well. Her splendid performance attracted all the attention at the party by her lithe and artistic motion.
After the hula, an exchange student introduced his home country Finland focusing on his home institution, University of Helsinki. University of Helsinki has been established since the year of 1640 and has become one of the leading universities in Europe today. Also, he introduced the candy adored in Finland ‘salmiakki’, which was famous as the world’s worst taste, as tasted the best in the world with an occasional touch of humor in his talk.
After that, our inevitable self-introduction game ‘Meet 10 or More Japanese People’ started with lots of fun! Students introduced themselves with taking notes earnestly, then enjoyed chatting and communicating each other here and there in the room.
Lastly, a rap discussion under the theme of ‘About Recent Mess and Wonder in Foreign Country’ began and each group made presentation. Same as last year, attendees enjoyed the vigorous discussion in a friendly manner.
We hope that our students will find trustworthy friends on this occasion and cultivate their friendship.
